I don't think I can give my entire story in 250 words or less, but can anyone really? So, I will sum it up and give a few highlights.
I grew up in a big city in Texas. My mom and dad were a constant presence in my life. I remember my dad working up to 3 jobs at a time and my mom stayed home. My dad would come home each afternoon through the front door and I remember my siblings and I would run up to him to hug him and immediately ask him for gum. He always had gum and it was the same flavor gum-Wrigley's Spearmint-the green pack. We'd get so excited over one stick of gum. My mom never use to allow much sugar in our diet. That was our sugar high! lol! By the way, I have one big brother and two younger sisters which made me second born, but the oldest of the girls.
My mom use to take us everywhere. She'd take us to the movies, the amusement park, out to eat pizza at Pizza Inn. She always wanted us to do things and stay busy. When I got to middle school, my mom began working part time and eventually it became full time. After that, I don't remember a time my mom didn't work. She continued to get promoted into different positions and remained at the same place of employment ever since.
My freshman year of high school I met a handsome young man. I was really tickled pink that he was even interested in me. He was considered a popular guy. He played football...dressed preppy....really cute! We caught eyes in our science class and never let go from there. (More on that at another time.)
The end of my sophomore year in high school I tried out for cheerleader and made it. I had longed to be one and finally became one. It was an exciting time with cheerleading camp that summer. I met a great bunch of girls and I had a lot of fun.
Towards the end of football season my junior year, I found out I was pregnant. Yes, from the cute guy I met when I was a freshman. We were still together. The following summer I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. I still managed to return to school my senior year and graduate with the rest of my classmates.
A few years after high school graduation, my handsome young man and I decided to get married. Four years after, we had our beautiful baby boy and completed our little family.
I ended up attending college and not only did I complete my bachelors degree, but I later mastered my Masters degree. And to think the odds were against me!
Here I was 16 years old and pregnant (that is another story I'll write at a later time), yet I managed to get married, earn two degrees and am currently living a successful and happy life. Many felt I wouldn't be able to do it. Many felt I was too young to accomplish anything with a baby in tow, but I did. I don't think many knew me and my determination and desire I had in me. I do owe much of my success to my parents who would never allow me to give up. They had high expectations in me and I couldn't let them down. It wasn't easy by no means. My husband was also a big part of my success. He was a constant support in all that I did. He always stood by me.
So, here is my story in a nutshell. I plan to dig deeper with parts of my life in a different time. Was this 250 words or less? I don't know? Feel free to count if you like! ;)
